ANGLE was appointed by the Royal Family of the State of Qatar to bring international best practice in science park development to Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). Running from 2004 to 2009 and worth over £6 million, management of QSTP was ANGLE's largest fee-for-service contract.
The tenant base has been expanded to 31 major corporations including Chevron, Cisco, ConocoPhillips, deltaDOT, EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), ExxonMobil, GE, Institut de Soudure, Microsoft, Rolls-Royce, Shell, Tata, Total, Transport Research Laboratory, Virgin Health Bank and Williams F1. QSTP has now attracted nearly $1billion in private funding for the research and development activities that are in progress on site.
ANGLE was responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of QSTP and a range of other capacity building initiatives for the Emirate. We led the research and commercialisation process in Qatar through a raft of QSTP programmes including the creation and growth of new technology companies, setting up of an international research institute, establishing a proof of concept fund; a seed fund; and a venture capital fund, the delivery of an entrepreneurship training and mentoring programme and the establishment of an intellectual property office.
ANGLE provided a seven person, on-site management team to lead QSTP, while simultaneously training Qatari nationals for key leadership roles. We also provided further support to the strategic development of QSTP’s general capability in the form of an additional contract to develop a national technology and innovation development plan.
The formal inauguration of QSTP took place on 16 March 2009 in the presence of the Emir of Qatar. ANGLE is proud to have been responsible for the successful management of this $600 million project over 5 years.
